Sis, New Year, NEW habits for a BETTER you and better health! What’s in your routine to protect your health? Specifically, what precautions do you take to ensure you are in the know about your sexual health and status?
As Black women, it’s up to us to prioritize our needs. The sex talk CAN be empowering, if you think about it, it’s the heart of self-love- to ensure we are educated, aware and in control of our health.
DYK: “African American females have 15 times the AIDS rate as compared to white females,” and, “Although Black/African Americans represent almost 13 percent of the U.S. population, they account for 42.1 percent of HIV infection cases in 2019.” (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health)
We are in control and have the tools to protect our health. Whether through PrEP, condoms, regular checkups, or courageous and transparent conversations, we are more than capable of tackling sexual health and prevention.
AOC has partnered with the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth to bring you an insightful discussion on sexual health practices, including the importance of PrEP and safety measures. PrEP is a crucial tool in the fight against the ongoing HIV epidemic and, when taken as prescribed, is highly effective at preventing infection from sexual contact or injection drug use.
This is not a gay or straight thing, all women must take the steps to protect themselves. Educated sexual health is SELF-LOVE.
Tune in on Thursday, January 16 at 7 PM as we sit with some of Tarrant County’s own, ordinary but extraordinary Black women to discuss sexual health and prevention.
